Butler Equestrian is located on 19 rolling acres in Darnestown, Maryland. Our facilities comprise of 4 barns, 2 outdoor riding areas and an indoor riding ring. We also have access to many trails within feet of our facility and often make use of them with our students.
Our goal at Butler Equestrian is to foster relationships between horse and rider in a fun and safe environment. Butler Equestrian Program teaches enriched horsemanship, encouraging responsibility and instilling teamwork and good sportsmanship. We do this within our lesson program as well as through leasing opportunities and membership in our Pony Club. Our students learn to understand equine behavior and basic horse care in addition to riding.
Butler Equestrian is a certified Pony Club Center through membership of the United States Pony Club. This organization seeks to instill in its members not only riding skills, but a greater understanding of the care and needs of the horse.
Butler Equestrian uses the US Pony Club standards to teach all of our students. Students are not required to participate/belong to Pony Club to ride in our program.
Butler Equestrian Pony Club participates in Pony Club sanctioned activities within our Center as well as activities within our Region. Students do need to be members of Pony Club in order to participate in these activities.
Riders that wish to participate in Pony Club must join the organization and pay the yearly National and Regional dues.
Our Pony Club Center is a wonderful place for our members to develop a sense of teamwork in a fun and safe environment. Our members are able to enjoy the chance to have fun in developing new skills that are connected with their passion for horses and riding.
During seasonal breaks, we offer opportunities for private and semi-private lessons that are unavailable during the seasonal lesson programs.
Working Student Program
We offer a Working Student Program for our students 12 years or older. In exchange for working student hours we verify SSL hours. In this program our students assist staff with various tasks and chores around the barns. It is an opportunity for our students to apply and develop horsemanship skills fostered in our lesson program. For our more self-directed Working Students, we will give opportunities to assist with lessons.
